Our History
The Howell family has been hanging out and making trouble (only the best kind!) in 12South for 80 years! Originally purchased in 1939, Big Daddy built much of what still exists today from leftover building material. From Big Daddy, Pawpaw and his siblings held onto the original building during a time when others left our neighborhood.
In the early 2000s, Andy, Richard, Robert, and Pat saw an opportunity. The four brothers banded together (as they often have over the years) and began developing our “Shop” into a destination for food, shopping, desserts, pictures, and fun!
Everything changed in 2010 when the flood waters rose. From that moment in Nashville’s history came an artist and a mural that would bring a struggling city together. The “I Believe in Nashville” mural didn’t make our city, our neighborhood, or our alley what they are today, but certainly showed our resilience.
We hope you’ll come visit us--eat, drink, shop, take some pictures, and maybe get your teeth cleaned! To learn more about our history, just pop around back, knock on the red door, and ask for a Howell--there should be a couple hanging around!
